When to See the Doctor

Someone with bipolar should see a doctor right away. Often, people with bipolar disorder do not realize how severe their condition is or don't believe they have a mental illness. Someone with bipolar disorder may need family and friends to encourage him or her to seek treatment. A person having a severe episode may need to be hospitalized, possibly against his or her will.
