Prevention

Cholesterol is the main component of plaques that build up on blood vessel walls. Studies show that maintaining normal cholesterol helps prevent angina (chest pain) and heart attack. Both are the result of plaque build-up in arteries.
High blood pressure, smoking, obesity and diabetes are separate risks for heart disease that can also be reduced through diet, exercise and medications.
